Dr. Kaye is a retired professor of thoracic surgery who has held appointments at the Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and the University of California-San Diego. He founded the Registry of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 1982 and founded the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 1984. He remained as editor of this journal through 1995 and also served on the editorial board of a number of medical journals. He continues to be a guest reviewer. His publications number 191, most of which appear in refereed journals. From 1992 to 1997 he held the position of Medical Director at Summit Medical Systems and in 1997 helped establish Acumen Health Care – an electronic data capture company. During his career he has served as a consultant to a number of device companies as well as the National Institute of Health.
